Well-being
Health can be defined as 'A state of complete physical, social and mental well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity' True well-being happens when you achieve collaboration of the body and mind. Balance and harmony are two words that I also associate with well-being.
Here's some tips for creating well-being:
- Take a few moments each day to get yourself back on track. Create balance and harmony through meditation or yoga. Find a peaceful space, focus on your natural breathing and give your mind time off from the stresses of daily life to get back your balance and inner harmony
- Take up the gentle exercise of Tai Chi - it helps to bring back balance through breathing exercises and gentle stretches
- Use your personal time to focus on your positive points and achievements. Keep a success diary and add to it weekly
- Use positive thinking to boost your self-esteem and learn to accept others appreciation of you.
Wellness
Keeping well is the best gift you can give yourself. Everything else comes together when your health is at it's best. Yet it's all to easy to take wellness for granted until it's gone. I've recently snapped a few fibres in my knee as a result of falling on the ski slopes and the binding not releasing. It really brought home how important it is to take care of our joints and muscles. It's been a reminder to me to take it easy and listen to my body.
Top tips for creating wellness
- Eat healthily and remember to practice good hygiene when preparing food.
- Get moving - one of the best things you can do is to get some form of exercise
- Think well - believe that you can manage your own health and that you have a strong healthy immune system.
- Get plenty of rest - it's essential to get your recommended amount of sleep, this does vary so work out what you need.
Be well!
