How much Physical Activity do you need for good Health?

How much Physical Activity is recommended?

‘Adults should achieve a total of at least 30 minutes a day of at least moderate intensity physical activity on five or more days of the week.’  DoH

Moderate intensity physical activity is defined as periods of activity during which you usually experience:

  • an increase in breathing rate
  • an increase in heart rate to the level where the pulse can be felt,
  • a feeling of increased warmth
Note: can be achieved in one session of sessions of at least 10 mins

How can you introduce more physical activity into our daily lives?

  • Go for a walk in your lunch break during work days
  • Have business meetings ‘on the hoof’
  • Consider taking the stairs a floor or two instead of using the lift (incl. downstairs)
  • Exercise with your child
  • Exercise whilst commuting (e.g. bike to work)
  • Park a little distance from the shops
  • Do some gardening

As you can see it's quite easy to get exercise if you want to.
