4 Ways to Get Better Sleep

A message from Noelyne...

Not getting enough sleep?
Waking up in the middle of the night?
Can't switch off when you get to bed?

Try these 4 recommended ways to Get Better Sleep

1.  Regularity
Same time every day

2.  Routines
Traditional hot drinks or a bath before bed are all helpful.  Other relaxing activities such as listening to music, or doing yoga for up to one hour before bed are helpful

3.  Restful bedroom
A dark, cool, non-humid, quiet room is ideal.  Daytime activities should be undertaken in another room

4.  The Right bed
This means buying the right bed in the first place and checking that your existing bed is still in good condition, with the right bedclothes

Sleep Well.

How much Physical Activity do you need for good Health?

A Message from Noelyne....

How much Physical Activity is recommended?

‘Adults should achieve a total of at least 30 minutes a day of at least moderate intensity physical activity on five or more days of the week.’  DoH

Moderate intensity physical activity is defined as periods of activity during which you usually experience:

  • an increase in breathing rate
  • an increase in heart rate to the level where the pulse can be felt,
  • a feeling of increased warmth
Note: can be achieved in one session of sessions of at least 10 mins

How can you introduce more physical activity into our daily lives?

  • Go for a walk in your lunch break during work days
  • Have business meetings ‘on the hoof’
  • Consider taking the stairs a floor or two instead of using the lift (incl. downstairs)
  • Exercise with your child
  • Exercise whilst commuting (e.g. bike to work)
  • Park a little distance from the shops
  • Do some gardening

As you can see it's quite easy to get exercise if you want to.

Enjoy!

How to Heal Dry Skin

  A Message from Noelyne......

I lived with dry skin from my early twenties right through to last year.  That's over twenty years!  After trying all sorts of skin lotions and cream I eventually accepted that I would have to live with dry skin.  My diet has been healthy for all that time.  If anything I probably don't have enough olive oil in my diet although I do only use olive oil when cooking.  I only eat butter so get reasonable amounts of fat.  I also drink plenty of water.

Last year after discovering Forever Living Products I started drinking Aloe Vera Drinking Gel daily and taking Artic Sea, an Omega 3 & 9 supplement.  I use Aloe Liquid Soap in the shower and Aloe Propolis cream for my feet and cracked heels.  Guess what?  My skin has improved phenomenally.  It will never be oily however, it's no longer itchily dry in Winter and glows healthily in Summer. My cracked heels have disappeared too which is wonderful.

How to Boost Your Immune System

A Message from Noelyne.....

A Healthy Immune System will ensure you enjoy good health all year round.

A well-balanced diet and regular moderate exercise will help as will a positive mental attitude i.e. believe that you can be healthy.

I also take a number of additional supplements to help my immune system along.

1.  Aloe Vera Drinking Gel
2.  Omega 3 Fish Oils - Arctic Sea
3.  A good quality Vitamin such as ABetaCareE

Here's why I take these:

Aloe Vera - Benefits of Aloe Vera Gel:
Natural cleanser/detoxer, penetrates tissue, soothes pain, antibacterial, can help with effects of fungal conditions, moisturises tissue, anti-inflammatory, soothes itching, highly nutritional (75+ nutrients), increases circulation, breaks down dead tissue, no known side-effects, boosts energy levels, promotes healthy cell growth, cleanses digestive system (which helps us absorb vitamins more effectively).

Omega 3 & 9 Fish Oils - Arctic Sea
Good for heart disease (protects heart and blood vessels), strokes, high cholesterol, achy joints, joint immobility, Omega 3 (oils from Arctic fish, away from all pollution), Omega-3 fatty acids play a part in reducing heart disease, Omega-3 and Omega-9 fatty acids have a beneficial effect on cholesterol levels, may help arthritis, reduces blood pressure, depression, learning difficulties and skin disorders, chronic dandruff, dyslexia (food for the brain), hyperactivity, ADHD, unruly teenagers, autism (reduces aggression), irritability, proven to reduce risk of Alzheimer’s disease (omega 3 oils help sufferers of Alzheimer’s with concentration & mood swings)

A good quality Vitamin such as ABetaCareE
The combination of these vitamins (A, Beta Carotene and E) with selenium greatly improves the absorption and activity of the vitamins, and work well together as an excellent rejuvenator. Contains selenium (v important to help reduce the incidence of cancer of the oesophagus, also VERY important for men to reduce possibility of prostate cancer, and maintains healthy liver). Anti-oxidant, repairs damaged cells, good for skin, vit A, good for the digestion, helps w psoriasis, preventative measure for Crohn’s disease, regulates body temperature (eg. hot flushes in menopausal women, also good for fatigue). Good for eyes (not for the elderly though, nothing helps ‘old age eyes’!)

Natural Treatments

A Message from Noelyne......

Alternative Ways to Stop a Tickly Throat, Clear a stuffed nose, Stop an ice-cream headache and Get the Feeling back into a numb arm.

1. If your throat tickles, scratch your ear.
“When the nerves in the ear are stimulated, it creates a reflex in the throat that can cause a muscle spasm,” says Scott Schaffer, M.D., president of an ear, nose and throat specialty center in Gibbsboro, New Jersey. “This spasm relieves the tickle.”

2. Clear your stuffed nose!
Forget Sudafed. An easier, quicker, and cheaper way to relieve sinus pressure is by alternately thrusting your tongue against the roof of your mouth, then pressing between your eyebrows with one finger. This causes the vomer bone, which runs through the nasal passages to the mouth, to rock back and forth, says Lisa DeStefano, D.O., an assistant professor at the Michigan State University college of osteopathic medicine. The motion loosens congestion; after 20 seconds, you’ll feel your sinuses start to drain.

3. Thaw your brain!
Too much Icecream too fast will freeze the brains of lesser men. As for you, press your tongue flat against the roof of your mouth, covering as much as you can. “Since the nerves in the roof of your mouth get extremely cold, your body thinks your brain is freezing, too,” says Abo. “In compensating, it overheats, causing an ice-cream headache.” The more pressure you apply to the roof of your mouth, the faster your headache will subside.

4. Wake the dead!
If your hand falls asleep while you’re driving or sitting in an odd position, rock your head from side to side. It’ll painlessly banish your pins and needles in less than a minute, says Dr. DeStefano. A tingly hand or arm is often the result of compression in the bundle of nerves in your neck; loosening your neck muscles releases the pressure. Compressed nerves lower in the body govern the feet, so don’t let your sleeping dogs lie. Stand up and walk around.

Just need to find a way to remember what to do when these happen!
Enjoy,
